WHATSAPP HOUSE RULES
The establishment of this platform was informed by the desire to create a forum for interaction between members of Great Ife Alumni Canada to relate with one another and freely express themselves without passing judgement on, insulting, others or being rude to them.
Note that the objectives of the platform are:
- To create a platform for positive interactions
- For exploration of ways of cooperation and networking to achieve development and growth of the Association with positive impacts on the Alumni members, the School, and the students
- For recognition and celebration of excellence and achievements of members
- To share other information that may be sources of knowledge and wisdom.
The rules of the platform are as follows:
- All posts should carry the name of the author for proper identification and should serve to inform or educate. All posts should bear the author’s identity either via the name on the status of the person or by inserting the name on any messages forwarded by members. This is for the purpose of ease of identification and referencing.
- Always comment with appropriate decorum and with respect. No swearing, rudeness, or abuse, or inappropriate language even when we hold divergent views.
- No commentary or postings on matters of sex or sexuality or innuendos in this respect EXCEPT such posts are reasonably decent enough for education and constructive knowledge sharing purposes with serious attention to the sensibilities of all members & faiths. Similarly, images or posts that are of blood and death, of a gory nature or that glorify violence should be avoided. Obscene, pornographic, immoral, grisly, and contemptuous posts are prohibited.
- Posts should be authenticated and ought to be objective, fair, and balanced, with a reasonably good choice of words. Individuals who post information later proven to be false should publicly apologize to the forum members or be deemed to be in breach of these rules.
- Any private message that is meant for the administrator or any other individual that will not be of “benefit” to the larger group, should be sent directly to their private boxes.
- Any post that will amount to a violation of any known law whether local or international should be avoided.
- Political posts on current national and international issues that are meant to inform or educate members are allowed. However, posts that consist of commentaries that are designed to denigrate personalities, groups, or political parties, are disallowed.
- Inappropriate posts or those made in error should be deleted as soon as it is pointed out or the member realizes the error.
- Our Association recognizes our different skills and occupations and are therefore open to members to use this platform for professional and scholarly discourses.
10 (a). In the event of an infringement or violation of any of these rules, the attention of a violator shall first be drawn to the post by the President, Vice President, Secretary General, or other administrator.
10 (b). The violator shall be cautioned privately by the relevant administrator and may be asked to retract the offensive post immediately and apologize to the members.
10 (c). Failure of a violator to apologize shall be treated as contempt of the whole Alumni. An administrator shall suspend such a violator from the platform after 6 hours of notice to apologize.
10(d) In the event that the offender in 10(c) above later decides to apologize and retract the offensive post, they shall be readmitted, upon their request.
10 (e). A member shall not receive more than three cautions. Three cautions shall be treated as recalcitrance and an offender may be sanctioned through suspension from the platform which may extend to one month. Thereafter, he or she shall be returned to the platform upon request.
10 (f). For the avoidance of doubt, it shall be the responsibility of the EXCO to determine what constitutes a violation of these rules.
10 (g). Appeals in all cases shall lie to the EXCO, through the Secretary.
